Very important note about Nov 23!!

This weekend, we experienced issues with one of the boilers at our school. While one boiler is still functioning and there is heat in the school, it is cooler than usual.  We will be at the school early in the morning to monitor the situation and will provide an update. Currently, we are anticipating that tomorrow will be a regular school day. However, please have students come to school wearing layers.

Thank you for your understanding.

Upcoming dates

I can't believe that it's already November!  As I'm sure you're aware, homework packages will be coming home each Friday and are due back the following Thursday. I'm going to do my best to post any anchor charts that may be useful on our blog for students to access from home.  We are currently working on polishing our rants related to our social studies unit.  Presentations begin tomorrow, through to next Thursday. I will ask students to ensure that they have their chosen presentation day written into their agendas.

Upcoming dates:  Thursday Nov 5 is photo day and pool

If you haven't yet had a chance to send me an email so that I have your address, it would be very much appreciated!  I'm easiest to contact via email at leigh.salter@tdsb.on.ca. The last time I check in the evening is usually around 10pm (please note that I don't usually check before noon), and regularly through the weekend.

Thank you for your continued support!!

Welcome to Room 26!!

Welcome to Room 26!! This is going to be an exciting year for all of us. I plan on using the blog to keep you up to date on what's going on in our classroom.  Also, I often post pictures of anchor charts that we use in class when related to homework, so students have somewhere to look if they need help. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at leigh.salter@tdsb.on.ca

Students received their September packages today. Please fill them out and return as soon as possible. We have also started using agendas for things that need to be brought in to school or assignments that need completing. I will also be asking them to add important dates as they come up.

JuneFest is coming!!

As most or all of you are aware, Junefest is coming up and with it comes our annual basket auction. To recap, each class is given a theme and then each family is asked to contribute an item relating to that theme to make up a basket to auction off at the fair.
You may have already received a notice home from your child but if not the theme for Rm 26 this year is "Sweet tooth, snack attack" - your favourite treat.
Please send your donations for the baskets with your child before June 11th. A box will be set up in the classroom for the donations.

Thanks!
Michaela

Graduation!!

It is a tradition at Williamson Road Public School that the grade 5 parents host the grade 6 graduation. As members of the Grade 5 Parent Graduation Committee, we are requesting your support of this event.
Following the June 19th graduation ceremony and reception, there is a celebration dance for the graduates at the Beaches Recreation Centre.
Parent Council has generously set aside a budget for the Committee’s use, but after stretching the budget for necessities like food/drink, stage rental and DJ, and we find it necessary to reach out for donations.
In order to make this a successful event, we want to ensure the students enjoy themselves and actually get up and dance! There is so much more motivation to get dancing when there is a prize at stake!

In that spirit, we are making a call out for small donations from the Grade 6 parents. Items to consider would be gift cards or small items that you know would interest others your graduate’s age.
Items in the past that have been great hits are gift cards to Menchies/Starbucks/Tim Hortons ($20 buys 4 $5 cards). Any small items like wireless speakers for smart phones, etc would also be a great hit.
Please consider making the effort and small financial contribution to making this a memorable time for your child and his/her peers.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated. Items can be dropped in the office - Please label!

Kind regards,

Grade 5 Parent Graduation Committee

Photos needed for Grad Slideshow!

Good day!
The Grade 6 graduation is approaching quickly! As part of the ceremony there will be a fabulous slide show. It has proven in the past to be the most popular part of the day. Ms Davidson has kindly and generously taken this on.

There is a way that you are able to make this even more memorable for your child.
Ms Davidson is requesting that each student be represented in the show with a childhood photo. This is sure to pull on a heartstring or two!

Please submit your digital photos to msbronwyndavidson@gmail.com at your earliest convenience, so that she may have maximum time to work on the show.

I thank you in advance for your attention to this submission,
Marian

Feb 5 - Update!

We are just launching into our next units for both science and math.  In science, we are moving on to electricity.  Students have been given a project (to be completed at school) that looks at different methods for electricity generation, including their environmental effects (i.e., hydro, geothermal, natural gas, coal, nuclear, tidal, solar, wind, biofuels, etc.).  In math, we are just about to cap off our unit on fractions, ratios and percentages and move on to decimals (comparing/ordering, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing).

In visual art, students created an art piece to illustrate a word that was inspired by a picture book that we read.  Once they are completed and up, I'll post a picture!  They've been very creative in their illustration of the words that were chosen.

Our inquiry question for the next little bit is "What is Power?"

Upcoming dates:
Feb 10:  Gr. 6 Girls Volleyball tournament
Feb 11:  We will be walking up to Ted Reeve to watch the "A" hockey team in action.  Please make
sure that your child has a lunch at school that day, as we will be leaving during the lunch hour.

Feb 12/13:  Parent/Teacher interviews, as requested.
